Only Just Begun

We've only just begun to fight.

This past Friday was a BIG day in the defense of our freedoms as Maine people.

Hundreds of Maine people from all corners of our state traveled to Augusta to make our voices heard by the politicians in defense of our 2nd Amendment.

Governor Janet Mills may have nominated Portland anti-gun activist Mike Sauschuck to enforce all Maine's gun laws as Commissioner of Public Safety, but that doesn't mean Maine people don't have a say.

As we filled the Hall of Flags right outside the Governor's office, the loud voices of Maine people --- from grassroots leaders to elected officials --- spoke loud and clear that we will not surrender our constitutional rights.

  • We heard from Sheriff Scott Nichols of Franklin County that is was time to "take a stand" against the "unacceptable" Mike Sauschuck for his "stances against our individual rights."

  • We heard from Senator Jeff Timberlake and Senator Paul Davis who are fighting for our rights in the Maine Senate.

  • We heard from Maine firearms expert Jeff Zimba who expressed how unprecedented it is for Maine gun owners to come out in opposition to a Governor's nominee --- its "never" been done before --- but "we're here because this one is dangerous."

  • And we heard from Maine mom and nurse Laura Parker who said, "There is no way we are going to give up our right to protect ourselves!"

Once the public confirmation hearing began, it stretched on for 5 hours as hundreds of Maine gun owners, one-by-one, told the committee exactly why our 2nd Amendment is so important and why anti-gun activist Mike Sauschuck should NOT be in charge of enforcing our gun laws.

But sadly, when it came time for a vote in committee, it split along party lines: 8 Democrats for confirmation, 5 Republicans against confirmation.

And yesterday, when confirmation came up for a vote in the Maine Senate, it split again along party lines:

  • Senator Jeff Timberlake of Androscoggin County lead the opposition on the floor, giving an impassioned speech as to why voting to confirm this outspoken gun control activist would violate each senator's oath of office to uphold the Constitution.

  • Thankfully, all 13 Senate Republicans present held together and voted against confirmation to protect our 2nd Amendment rights.

  • But all 21 Senate Democrats (including those from rural, conservative areas) voted in lock-step to confirm this Portland anti-gun activist to enforce our gun laws.

Despite overwhelming opposition from Maine people, anti-gun activist Mike Sauschuck was rammed through along party lines in the Senate yesterday by a vote of 21-13.

But this isn't the end of our fight; its only just begun.

At the Free Maine Campaign, our job is now to make sure the politicians feel the political consequences of their votes to erode our constitutional rights.

When it comes to how they vote on issues affecting our freedoms, politicians like to think, "What happens in Augusta stays in Augusta."

  • Our job is to make sure that isn't the case.

  • Our job is to ensure their constituents know exactly what these anti-freedom legislators are up to.

  • Our job is to hold the politicians accountable every time they vote to erode our liberties as Maine people.

And with many anti-freedom proposals on the horizon in Augusta, including 25 new gun control bills, we have to get moving immediately as Free Maine People to stop these big government efforts to steal our liberties.

That's why I urge you to join me on February 16 or 18 for one of our 1-Day Political Leadership Schools.

The Free Maine Campaign is hosting two Grassroots Leadership Schools over President's Day Weekend, taught by Foundation for Applied Conservative Leadership (FACL) instructor Shawn Dow.

This grassroots leadership training program taught me how to be an effective leader for our constitutional freedoms here in Maine.

To protect our freedoms, our movement must be effective in the fights ahead, so I want to make sure all Maine conservatives and libertarians have the opportunity to get the training and become a leader.

P.S. - Hundreds of Maine people showed up in Augusta this past Friday to make our voices heard in defense of our constitutional freedoms. Sadly too few politicians were listening.

But this is only the beginning.

At the Free Maine Campaign, we are building a grassroots defense for our freedoms and paychecks as Maine people against the politicians in Augusta. I hope you will become a member and join me in this fight.

And be sure to register for one of our upcoming grassroots leadership schools (members get half off):
